KEY POINTS

Mixing business and friendship can be a real minefield, especially when one person isn’t pulling their weight. In this segment of Lifequakes, host Jessica Reyes and guest JoJo Venant tackle the tough topic of how to address a friend who offered to help on a project but isn’t meeting expectations.

The Value of Your Word

JoJo says if there’s an expectation that was set, it doesn’t matter if there was money attached to it or not, it all comes down to the value of your word. If your word depends on a dollar amount, it may be time to self reflect.

Look at Both Angles

It’s important to look at every side of the story. Maybe you give them grace at first because they feel overwhelmed and don’t know how to tell you because they don’t want to disappoint you. If more time goes on with no improvements, you can reach out and nicely ask if they are still able to help or not and if they can’t you understand but you need to know so you’re able to plan for it.
