KEY POINTS

Can what we think really influence our physical health? Host Jessica Reyes and guest therapist Dr. Jude Black talk about the science behind the mind-body connection and what it means for your well-being on this “What’s Trending” segment.

The Placebo Effect

Sugar pills can sometimes act like real medicine. Dr. Jude says this can be a combination of it being in our heads and something more complex happening. She uses the example of a child falling and how their reaction can depend on those around them. If others are hysterical, the child will likely be hysterical, though if others are calm, the child will be too.

Mindfulness and Stress

The Psychology Today article suggests mindfulness can be a way to improve health. Dr. Jude explains that mindfulness involves paying attention and being present in what’s happening right now, so you can navigate changes throughout your day.

Harnessing the Power of Belief

Research shows our beliefs may impact our health outcomes. Developing a more positive mindset about our health can involve practices like mindfulness, regular exercise, and focusing on gratitude.
