KEY POINTS

Are you tired of shallow friendships? On “What’s Trending,” hosts Patricia Wu, Jessica Reyes, and guest therapist Ryan Heapy dive into Psychology Today’s tips to build meaningful, lifelong connections.

Get Out There

It can definitely be intimidating, but stepping outside your comfort zone by engaging with new people or environments can elevate your life experience. Ryan says there’s so many opportunities through community events, sport leagues, in-person classes, and more. The first step is getting over that discomfort and fear of rejection from meeting new people.

Be Willing to Experience Pain

Genuine relationships often come with challenges and emotional pain, but they can grow stronger over time. Ryan says building resilience takes practice and this can be an excellent thing to work on with a therapist.

Be Yourself

Being true to yourself and authentic in your interactions leads to greater happiness and well-being. There’s so many people out there that have a desire for connection, you just have to want to put in the work to find them!
