KEY POINTS

Ageism is basically discrimination against older folks just because of their age. And it’s happening all around us, even if we don’t realize it.

We live in a world obsessed with staying young. We slather on anti-aging creams and do everything we can to avoid those wrinkles.

But in our quest for youth, we sometimes forget the value of experience and wisdom that comes with age.

Have you ever heard someone say, “They’re too old for that job,” or “They can’t keep up with technology”? That’s ageism, and it’s not good! Just because someone has a few more birthdays under their belt doesn’t mean they can’t contribute or thrive. Older folks bring a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the table.

So, what can we do about it? Jessica Reyes, Patricia Wu, and Dr. Marcelline Girlie suggest being more mindful of our words and actions.

Let’s challenge those stereotypes and celebrate the wisdom that comes with age.

And let’s make sure our workplaces are welcoming and inclusive for everyone, no matter their age. Let’s embrace aging and create a world where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of the number.
