KEY POINTS

Parents… ever feel like your kid’s phone is practically glued to their hand? A school in Des Moines is doing something about it. They’re banning cell phones during the school day, and it’s not about being anti-technology.

It’s about giving kids a break from the constant distractions and pressures of social media.

Remember when we were kids? We played outside, made up games, and talked to each other face-to-face. Now, our kids are missing out on those simple joys because their phones are always buzzing with notifications.

Patricia Wu, Jessica Reyes, and Dr. Jude Black says this phone-free time at school could make our kids happier.

It gives them a chance to connect with their friends in real life, focus on their studies, and just be present in the moment.

So, maybe it’s time we try something similar at home. Let’s set some boundaries around phone use. Let’s encourage our kids to explore, get creative, and find joy in the real world, not just the virtual one. Who knows? It might just bring a little more peace and happiness to our whole family.
