Whether it’s a vivid dream or haunting nightmare, our dreams hold hidden messages about our lives. Therapist Dr. Cortina Peters joins host Jessica Reyes to uncover them on “Mental Breakthroughs.”
The Role of Dreams
Dr. Cortina says that dreams play a significant role in our lives and explains that there’s different types. Some dreams may give you deeper insights to a question you have, some may initiate a fear response, and others may be more creative where something just comes to you.
Dreams impact us emotionally, mentally, and physically. Dr. Cortina stresses that it’s our job to pay attention to the different dreams that we experience.
Dream Analysis for Self-Discovery
If you can remember your dreams, Dr. Cortina encourages you to write them down so you can identify themes. If you are continuously having similar dreams, documenting it can help you connect the dots to what it means.
By keeping a dream journal, you can start to see how your subconscious mind processes unresolved issues, desires, or fears. Over time, this can become a powerful tool for self-discovery, providing insights into your personal growth and emotional well-being. Whether your dreams are confusing, enlightening, or unsettling, reflecting on them offers a window into the deeper workings of your mind, helping you navigate your inner world with more awareness.
Dreams and Life Reflection
So how may our dreams, or nightmares, reflect ourselves or our lives? Dr. Cortina says one of the things to look for is what the dream is trying to tell you. Ask yourself, are you going through something emotional? Is this nightmare a reflection of a deeper fear? Is this your subconscious trying to communicate with you?
When asked if all dreams mean something, Dr. Cortina argues that all dreams can be an indication, though that doesn’t necessarily mean it means anything. If you’re a big dreamer, don’t be afraid of dreaming, embrace it.
