KEY POINTS

Toxicity and Productivity

Our work environments play a crucial role in our overall well-being and productivity. A toxic workplace can breed negativity, stress, and even health problems. Patricia Wu sits down with founder and CEO of Fresh Biz Solutions, Kon Apostolopolous to discuss the importance of a positive work environment. Providing practical tips for identifying and addressing toxicity, ensuring a healthier and more fulfilling professional life.

The Impact of Toxicity in the Workplace

The pandemic created alien conditions for workers, from switching to working remote to stranger working hours, people are still feeling the impact of that disruption years later. The blurring of the lines when it comes to work life and personal time has only exacerbated the lack of engagement from employees that has been rising since even before the pandemic. Apostolopolous simply says “the numbers don’t lie,” as millions of people have left their jobs and “quiet quit” in the last few years due to not feeling engaged.

Building a Better Environment

Apostolopolous shares that there are many things leaders can do to create a work environment free of toxicity; most importantly make sure people feel valued. A toxic workplace effects everyone, all employees and leadership, if people are disengaged at work those who are working to their fullest potential can only tolerate it for so long. That’s why the second thing Apostopolous suggests is to make sure coworkers have a sense of community, and that what they’re doing makes a difference.
