KEY POINTS

Do therapists truly care about their clients, or is it just business? Hosts Jessica Reyes, Patricia Wu, and guest therapist Dr. Jude Black explore this on “What’s Trending.”

The Price Tag on Mental Care

Therapy is often seen as a source of care and support, though the financial aspect can raise questions about the authenticity of the relationship. Dr. Jude explains that while it’s true therapists have to make a living, that doesn’t mean that they don’t care about their clients. Among the therapists that she’s worked with, Dr. Jude says they all have a reason why they joined the profession and real passion for what they do.

Love and Money Don’t Mix… But They Do in Therapy?

The Psychology Today article points out that even with money involved, therapy can be a form of love. It’s not romantic but rather a desire to see you grow. In the words of Dr. Jude, “I’m looking forward to the day you fire me because you have the tools and skills you need to go do life and a safe place to return to.”

Having Doubts? Ask Questions

It’s crucial to bring up any questions or concerns about the therapy relationship directly with your therapist. Dr. Jude says she talks to clients about it from the start because this is the place to have those tough conversations. “Where else are you going to have that unconditional support in a judgment free zone?”
