KEY POINTS

Ever feel like our differences are being used to divide us? That’s what identity politics can do. It puts people in boxes – oppressors vs. oppressed – and makes it hard to see what we have in common.

This isn’t helpful, right? We need to find common ground, not more reasons to fight. But how?

The answer is simpler than you might think: listen to each other.

Jessica Reyes, Patricia Wu, and Ryan Heapy really want you to listen. Try to understand where the other person is coming from, even if you disagree. This is way more productive than yelling and name-calling.

And let’s be honest, only hearing from people who agree with us doesn’t get us anywhere.

We need to hear different perspectives, even if they challenge our own beliefs.

We might have different backgrounds and experiences, but we all want the same things: a better world for ourselves and our loved ones.
