KEY POINTS

In this segment of Lifequakes, hosts Patricia Wu and Jessica Reyes explore body image insecurities and how they can hold you back from fully engaging in relationships. Jojo Venant joins us to offer key advice on how anyone can navigate these types of feelings.

Insecurities In A Relationship

Insecurities inhibit intimacy in relationships not only physically, but emotionally. Being self-conscious of your body can impact every aspect of your life, how you present yourself, how you interact socially, and how you treat yourself. Venant says that self-consciousness doesn’t suddenly disappear because you’re close to someone. A partner can express their love and reassure them that there’s no reason to be self-conscious, but that mindset can’t be ignored easily.

Steps Towards A Better Mindset

If you or your partner is facing body image issues, remember that the relationship isn’t the problem. The focus should be on supporting the personal journey towards self-acceptance. Venant recommends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a proven method for addressing negative thought patterns and building a healthier body image.
