KEY POINTS

Raising kids is not easy , and we all have our own unique approach. But have you ever wondered what kind of parenting style you actually have?

It turns out there are four parenting styles.

Hosts Jessica Reyes and Patricia Wu brings guest Dr. Cortina Peters to help you understand them in order to be more intentional about the way you parent.

First up, there’s the authoritative style. This is like the parenting gold standard! It’s all about working together with your child to solve problems, setting clear rules, and having open conversations.

Then there’s the authoritarian style, which is more about strict rules and “because I said so.” This one can be a bit tough on kids, as it doesn’t really focus on their emotions or needs.

Next, we have the neglectful style, where parents are pretty hands-off and don’t pay much attention to their child’s needs. This is definitely one to avoid.

And last but not least, there’s the permissive style, which is super child-led. Rules are few and far between, and parents often give in to avoid conflict.

So, which one sounds most like you? Remember, there’s no right or wrong answer, but understanding your style can help you be the best parent you can be.
